The Ontario government uses student tests to determine where to put additional resources, not to compare schools, Education Minister Lauren Broten says.
Asked whether education results reflect the government's accelerated spending in this area, Broten said as recently as last week a reputable organization ranked the Ontario education system as a world leader.
Broten said data gathered from standardized testing helps determine where extra supports and resources are needed.
always more work to do, of course there is," Broten said.
kindergarten and class size caps is one of the reasons given for the provincial government's intention to seek a two year freeze in teachers' salaries.
"One thing that we don't want to see happen is to have a situation where we are ranking one school against another and making judgments. Our focus is on every student in every school," Broten said. "Fraser Institute is in that business of ranking. What we're in the business of at the Ministry of Education is making sure that every one of our schools and every one of our students meets their full potential."
